Ghana to Resume Embassy Operations in Tehran on September 16

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has confirmed that Ghana’s Embassy in Tehran, Iran, will officially reopen on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, after being closed for nearly three months.

The Embassy was temporarily shut down on June 16, 2025, as a precautionary measure to safeguard staff and Ghanaian nationals during heightened tensions between Iran and Israel.

In a statement released on Tuesday, September 2, the Ministry explained that the decision to resume operations follows an improvement in Iran’s security situation.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to inform the public that with the improvement in the security situation in Iran, a decision has been taken for the Embassy to resume its operations on Tuesday, September 16, 2025,” the statement read.

The Ministry further assured that it will continue to closely monitor developments in Iran to guarantee the safety of Embassy staff and the Ghanaian community in the country.

It also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Ghanaians abroad, pledging to provide timely updates on any significant changes in the security situation.

The reopening of the mission is expected to strengthen Ghana’s diplomatic presence in the Middle East while ensuring that consular services to citizens in Iran are fully restored.
