The President of the Federal Republic of Germany, His Excellency Frank-Walter Steinmeier, is set to undertake a three-day State Visit to Ghana from Sunday, November 2 to Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at the invitation of President John Dramani Mahama.

The announcement was made in a press release issued by Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, on Thursday, October 31. The visit marks a significant step toward deepening Ghana-Germany bilateral relations, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, technology, and development cooperation.

Official Programme of the Visit

According to the release, the official programme begins on Monday, November 3, with a full military Guard of Honour at the Forecourt of The Presidency in Accra. President Steinmeier and President Mahama will then hold a closed-door meeting, followed by bilateral talks between their respective delegations in the Credentials Room.

A State Luncheon will later be held at the Presidential Banquet Hall in honour of President Steinmeier and his delegation.

In the afternoon, the German President will visit the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, where he will lay a wreath at the tomb of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

He is also expected to interact with young Ghanaian IT specialists, as part of efforts to promote digital innovation and youth empowerment. The day will conclude with a reception at the German Ambassador’s Residence in Accra.

Visit to Kumasi

On the final day of the visit, Tuesday, November 4, President Steinmeier will travel to Kumasi, where he will perform a sod-cutting ceremony at the Kumasi Technical Institute. He will also meet with the Vice-Chancellor, staff, and alumni of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

The German President is scheduled to depart Ghana on Tuesday evening.

Strengthening Ghana-Germany Relations

The visit underscores the long-standing Ghana-Germany partnership, which spans over six decades and covers multiple areas including renewable energy, vocational training, industrialization, and governance support.

Political analysts view the visit as a reinforcement of Germany’s strategic commitment to Africa’s economic transformation, with Ghana seen as a key partner in West Africa.
