Builsa South Celebrates 41st Farmers’ Day: Honoring Agricultural Excellence and Securing the Future

On December 5th, 2025, the people in Builsa South District came together at Gbedema to celebrate the 41st Farmers’ Day—a tribute to the district’s unsung heroes: its farmers. The event, led by District Chief Executive Hon. Anne Musah, was themed “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future,” reflecting the district’s commitment to food security, sustainability, and agricultural modernization.

A Vision for Sustainable Agriculture

In her keynote address, Hon. Musah emphasized the importance of agriculture not just as a means of production, but as a pillar of sustainability and national resilience. She highlighted government-backed initiatives such as the Feed Ghana program, subsidized fertilizers, farm mechanization centers, and crop insurance schemes—all aimed at transforming agriculture into a modern, thriving sector.

Locally, Builsa South is tackling district-specific challenges by improving irrigation systems, expanding access to farming inputs, and enhancing infrastructure to connect farmers to markets. The district is also promoting agroforestry, organic farming, and climate-smart agriculture to protect natural resources and ensure long-term productivity.

Embracing Local Food Systems

The “Eat Ghana” component of the theme encouraged residents to embrace locally grown foods, celebrate traditional dishes, and support indigenous food systems. Hon. Musah urged the community to choose local produce, noting that “every time we choose locally grown food, we are feeding our economy and empowering our farmers.”
