Ghana has achieved nationwide access to passport services following the establishment of Passport Application Centres (PACs) in all 16 regions, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced.

The minister made this known in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) page on December 30, describing the development as a major milestone in improving public service delivery across the country.

“We made it! All 16 Regions of Ghana finally have their Passport Application Centres,” Mr. Ablakwa wrote.

Remaining Centres to Be Commissioned

According to the Foreign Affairs Minister, while some centres have already been commissioned, others will be officially inaugurated in the coming days. He disclosed that the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. James Gyakye Quayson, will commission the centres in Ahafo, Bono East and Western North, while he personally commissions the North East and Savannah regions, following the successful commissioning of the Oti Region.

Describing the initiative as part of broader governance reforms, Mr. Ablakwa stated:

“President Mahama’s Reset Agenda is real. We are leaving no region behind. For God and Country.”

Encouraging Legal and Accessible Applications

In an earlier Facebook post dated Sunday, November 9, 2025, Mr. Ablakwa explained that the revised pricing is also intended to discourage the use of middlemen and unauthorised agents, while encouraging citizens to apply for passports through official channels.

The new fee applies uniformly across all Passport Application Centres nationwide and covers standard passport application services.

Reversal of Previous Fee Increase

The GH¢500 passport fee was introduced under the previous NPP administration, where the then Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, justified the increase by citing the withdrawal of certain government subsidies.

The current administration says the reduction to GH¢350 reflects its commitment to affordability, inclusiveness, and efficient public service delivery.

With nationwide passport centres and reduced fees now in place, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says Ghana is moving closer to a more accessible, decentralised, and citizen-friendly passport acquisition system.
