The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced scheduled maintenance works across parts of the country on Sunday, March 29, 2026, a move aimed at improving power supply reliability and strengthening the national electricity grid.

According to official advisories, the planned exercise will primarily affect communities within the Tema and Accra East operational zones, with outages expected to last between five to seven hours depending on the location.

Tema Region to Experience Seven-Hour Outage

In the Tema Region, power supply will be interrupted from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, affecting key communities including:

  • Suncity
  • Manya Jopanya
  • Shai Hills
  • Wildlife
  • Surrounding areas

The outage will impact both residential and commercial activities as ECG engineers undertake essential infrastructure upgrades within the network.

Accra East Communities Also Affected

A separate maintenance operation in the Accra East Region is scheduled from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, targeting densely populated and industrial areas such as:

  • Baatsona
  • Teshie Township
  • GREDA Estate
  • Teshie Nungua
  • Spintex Road industrial enclave
  • Agblezaa
  • Manet Estate
  • Surrounding communities

ECG notes that this intervention is critical to resolving persistent network challenges and enhancing power stability in the capital’s busy commercial corridors.

Ongoing Faults in Ashanti Region

The planned maintenance comes amid ongoing efforts to restore power in parts of the Ashanti West Region following an earlier unplanned outage caused by a fallen conductor at Ahiakaso. Affected areas include:

  • Kodie
  • Ahenkro
  • Denase
  • Akom
  • Apagya
  • Aduman
  • Aduamoah
  • Nkwantakese

Engineers have been deployed to repair the fault, although no definitive timeline has been provided for full restoration.

ECG Appeals for Public Patience

The ECG has apologised for the inconvenience caused by both the scheduled maintenance and recent unplanned outages, assuring customers that the interventions are necessary for long-term service improvement.

“The planned works are essential to ensure a more stable and reliable electricity supply,” the company emphasised, urging affected residents and businesses to plan accordingly.

With Ghana’s power distributor intensifying maintenance and upgrade efforts, consumers can expect periodic disruptions in the short term. However, ECG maintains that these interventions are critical to delivering a more resilient and efficient power network nationwide.
