The 2026 Budget unveils a renewed infrastructure drive under the Big Push Programme, a national development initiative designed to accelerate growth and create jobs through massive capital investment in roads, bridges, energy, and transport.
The government plans to leverage a blend of public-private partnerships (PPPs), concessional financing, and local contractor support to execute projects across all 16 regions.
Key highlights include the rehabilitation of the Sunyani Airport, the construction of a new Bolgatanga Airport, and the completion of the Adawso–Ekye Amanfrom Bridge to open the Afram Plains to large-scale agricultural and commercial activity.
The programme also prioritizes the completion of 1,000 kilometres of agricultural enclave roads, dualisation of key highways, and major urban road resurfacing works.
Dr. Forson said the initiative aligns with President Mahama’s vision to link Ghana’s productive sectors, agriculture, industry, and commerce, through modern infrastructure.
“The Big Push is not just about construction; it’s about connecting opportunities, empowering local businesses, and making every region a growth pole,” he said.
The infrastructure programme is expected to create tens of thousands of jobs directly and indirectly, supporting local artisans, engineers, and equipment suppliers while boosting domestic cement and steel production.
