Ghana’s Black Stars delivered a commanding performance to defeat the Central African Republic (CAR) by five goals to nil, taking a huge step toward qualifying for the2026 FIFA World Cup.
Playing at the Stade d’Honneur de Meknes in Morocco, coach Otto Addo’s men dominated from start to finish, running riot in the second half after holding a 1-0 lead at halftime.
First-Half Dominance
Ghana opened the scoring in the 21st minute through Mohammed Salisu, who expertly connected with a Mohammed Kudus corner kick. The Black Stars controlled the tempo and created several chances, registering six shots on target in the first half but failing to convert more of them.
Despite the narrow lead, the first-half display set the tone for a brilliant second-half performance.
Second-Half Explosion
After the break, Ghana took full control of the game, enjoying 65% possession and keeping the Fauves pinned in their own half.
Seven minutes into the second half, captain Jordan Ayew threaded a precise through ball to Thomas Partey, whose powerful strike took a slight deflection to double Ghana’s lead.
Nine minutes after the hour mark, Alexander Djiku rose highest to head home from another Ayew corner kick, making it 3-0.
Ayew, who had already assisted twice, got on the scoresheet himself after Gideon Mensah’s cross caused confusion in the CAR defense.
The rout was completed when Joseph Paintsil dazzled down the right wing to set up Kamaldeen Sulemana, who tapped in from close range at the back post.
Group Standings and What’s Next
The emphatic victory takes Ghana to the top of Group I with 22 points, extending their lead over Madagascar, who sit on 19 points after a 2-1 win over Comoros.
Qualification, however, is not yet sealed. The Black Stars will need at least a draw in their final group game against Comoros to secure a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The crucial fixture is scheduled for Sunday, October 12, 2025, at 7 PM local time, when Ghana will host the Coelacanths in front of their home fans.
