Manchester City continued their impressive form with a 2-0 victory over Everton at the Etihad Stadium, as Erling Haaland struck twice to extend the champions’ unbeaten run to eight matches across all competitions.
Coming into the fixture, City had won their previous two home league games by margins of three goals or more, setting the stage for another dominant display. However, David Moyes’ Everton started brightly, pressing aggressively and restricting City’s rhythm early on.
The Toffees nearly took a shock lead inside 15 minutes when Iliman Ndiaye squared for Beto, but the striker failed to convert with the goal at his mercy. City gradually grew into the game, with Haaland rattling the crossbar from a header and Jeremy Doku forcing a fine save from Jordan Pickford before halftime.
At the other end, Gianluigi Donnarumma, making his Premier League debut for City was called into action to deny Ndiaye’s powerful effort, ensuring the sides went into the break level.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with Everton defending bravely until Haaland inevitably found the breakthrough. Just before the hour mark, the Norwegian rose above his marker to head home Nico O’Reilly’s pinpoint cross. Moments later, he doubled his tally with a fierce low strike from Savinho’s assist, leaving Pickford with no chance.
Haaland’s brace took his season tally to 23 goals in just 13 matches for club and country, underlining his devastating form. The Norwegian also maintained his incredible record against Everton, with six goals in five games versus the Merseyside club.
City could have added more, but Pickford produced several outstanding late saves to deny Haaland a hat-trick. The result condemned Everton to their first multi-goal away defeat in the Premier League since December and extended their winless streak at the Etihad to 15 years.
With this win, Manchester City temporarily moved top of the Premier League table, while also extending their unbeaten head-to-head record against Everton to 18 matches.
