Ghanaians seeking to acquire new passports will soon pay significantly less, following a major announcement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration. The government has approved a 30% reduction in the cost of Ghanaian passports, lowering the standard application fee from GH₵500 to GH₵350.
According to Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the new passport fee structure will take effect nationwide from Thursday, November 13, 2025. The policy forms part of government’s broader initiative to ease the financial burden on citizens and improve access to essential public services.
“This adjustment reflects our commitment to make travel documents more affordable for all Ghanaians,” Minister Ablakwa said in a Facebook post on Sunday. “We are also determined to discourage the use of middlemen and unauthorized agents who exploit applicants.”
Passport Fee Reduction Aims to Promote Accessibility
The reduction means that all standard passport applications processed through official Passport Application Centres (PACs) across the country will now cost GH₵350.
Officials say the move aligns with government’s ongoing reforms to enhance transparency and efficiency in passport services. By cutting costs, the Ministry hopes to encourage more citizens to acquire valid passports through official channels, reducing incidents of fraud and exploitation by third parties.
Part of Government’s Broader Cost-Easing Agenda
This passport fee reduction adds to a series of government efforts aimed at reducing the cost of essential services and improving citizen welfare. The Ministry noted that making travel documents affordable will not only ease domestic financial pressures but also boost international mobility for Ghanaian citizens.
Industry analysts have praised the initiative, describing it as a positive step toward administrative reform and digitalization of public services. The move is also expected to increase passport application volumes in the coming months.
