The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has interdicted six officers for gross misconduct after a disturbing viral video showed them verbally assaulting a superior officer at the Offinso Inland Checkpoint. The incident occurred on November 25, 2025, when the superior officer, who identified himself as a Deputy Commissioner of Immigration (DC01), was travelling as a passenger in a commercial vehicle.

In a statement issued on November 28, 2025, GIS described the officers’ behaviour as “unacceptable and far below the standards expected of personnel of the Service.” The video, which has since sparked widespread public criticism, captured scenes of open disrespect, lack of civility, and verbal aggression toward the senior officer.

GIS emphasized that such conduct constitutes a clear violation of its Code of Conduct, especially given the Service’s long-standing emphasis on professionalism, courtesy, and discipline in the discharge of official duties and interaction with travellers.

The Comptroller-General of Immigration reaffirmed that professionalism, respect for authority, and integrity remain core pillars of the Ghana Immigration Service. He warned that any behaviour undermining these values would attract swift and decisive sanctions.

The Service also issued an apology to the public for the embarrassment caused by the incident and assured citizens that it remains committed to upholding the highest levels of accountability and discipline among its personnel.

Management of GIS has initiated a full investigation into the matter and noted that all actions will be taken in accordance with the Ghana Immigration Service Regulations 2016 (L.I. 2245).
