The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued an urgent weather warning for parts of Northern Ghana, cautioning residents to prepare for thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and strong winds expected to hit several communities in the coming hours.

The impact-based weather alert highlights the possibility of dangerous weather conditions that could disrupt transportation, electricity supply, farming activities, and daily life across affected areas.

GMet indicated that the storm system is likely to produce intense rainfall accompanied by lightning and gusty winds, increasing the risk of localized flooding and damage to weak structures. Residents in vulnerable communities have been advised to stay indoors during thunderstorms and avoid taking shelter under trees or unstable structures.

The warning comes at a time when several parts of Northern Ghana have already experienced fluctuating weather patterns linked to the ongoing rainy season. Meteorologists say such weather events are common during this period, but strong winds and severe thunderstorms can still pose significant threats to lives and property.

Disaster management authorities are urging the public to remain alert and follow safety advisories from local officials and emergency services. Motorists have also been advised to exercise caution, especially during periods of reduced visibility caused by heavy rainfall.

Farmers, traders, and residents in storm-prone areas are being encouraged to secure loose items, protect livestock, and monitor official weather updates closely. Communities near flood-prone zones have been reminded to stay vigilant as sudden downpours could lead to flash floods.

The latest advisory underscores growing concerns about extreme weather conditions and the importance of preparedness as Ghana enters the peak of the rainy season.
