The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has reaffirmed government’s commitment to completing all infrastructure projects under the Big Push Agenda by the end of 2027. Speaking on TV3 New Day on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, the Minister revealed that the project is fully funded and aligns directly with President Mahama’s 24-hour Economy policy.
According to him, the Big Push initiative is not limited to road infrastructure, but forms part of a broader national growth strategy intended to stimulate job creation and economic expansion.
“We are determined to complete these projects by the close of 2027… with the support of Ghanaian contractors, we are going to do this,” Agbodza assured.
Over GHS40 Billion Secured to Fast-track Completion
To prevent delays and budget overruns, the government has secured more than GHS40 billion for the implementation of the Big Push Agenda.
- GHS13 billion allocated in the 2025 National Budget
- GHS30 billion additional allocation in the 2026 Budget
“So we already have over GHS40 billion earmarked between this year and next year,” the Minister explained.
Agbodza further indicated that contractors have commenced work, though he is yet to receive any official payment certificates. He expects some certificates by mid-December as several contractors have reportedly completed close to 30% of their initial tasks.
No Unauthorized Changes or Variations to the Project
To ensure the project stays within the 24-month work schedule, the Minister issued a strong caution against unauthorized additions or scope variations.
“There will be no unauthorized variations on this project… even if it is in my constituency,” he stressed, emphasizing that such changes have historically contributed to delays and cost bloating.
Big Push Agenda to Create 500,000 Jobs
Agbodza disclosed that the Big Push initiative is expected to create nearly 500,000 jobs during its construction phase. These range from unskilled labor to professional roles, including civil engineers and technical specialists.
The Minister reiterated that with funding secured, strict project controls in place, and contractors already mobilized, government is confident of meeting the 2027 completion target.
