President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the long-awaited final report from the Constitutional Review Committee (CRC) will be submitted to him on December 22, marking a major milestone in Ghana’s ongoing constitutional reform process.

The CRC, chaired by Prof. H. Kwesi Prempeh, has spent months gathering nationwide feedback on proposed amendments to key sections of the 1992 Constitution. According to President Mahama, the Committee recently provided him with an overview of its preliminary findings during a briefing held three weeks ago.

“They met me three weeks ago and made a presentation of some of the findings they were going to make. They are quite interesting. They intend to present the final results on December 22. Once the final report is presented, we will make it known to the rest of the nation,”

The President made this disclosure during a meeting with the National Peace Council at the Jubilee House on Wednesday, December 10.

Mahama Addresses Debate on Muslim Students’ Rights

President Mahama also weighed in on a growing national conversation concerning the rights of Muslim students in mission schools. Recent concerns from parents, religious groups, and civil society have sparked discussions about fairness and uniform treatment in faith-based institutions.

The President emphasised the need for tolerance and respect for diversity across all educational spaces, noting that existing agreements governing mission schools already contain mechanisms for accommodating different religious practices.

He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to ensuring that no student is discriminated against on the basis of religion, stressing that every learner deserves dignity, respect, and equal opportunity.

A Step Toward Strengthening Ghana’s Democracy

The upcoming submission of the CRC report marks an important step toward potential constitutional reforms. Once officially received, the government is expected to publish the findings and guide the nation through the next phase of consultation and implementation.

As Ghana continues to strengthen its democratic foundations, the outcomes of the review process, along with ongoing discussions about religious freedoms and inclusivity, will play a critical role in shaping national policy and social harmony.
