Over 590,000 Students Begin Senior High School Journey as 2025/2026 Academic Year Commences

The Ministry of Education has officially welcomed more than 590,000 first-year students to Senior High Schools (SHSs) across Ghana as the 2025/2026 academic year begins.

Students began reporting to their respective schools on Saturday, October 18, 2025, with others expected to arrive by Monday, October 20. The Ministry described the development as “a proud moment for students, families, and the nation as a whole.”

In a statement issued by Hashmin Mohammed, Press Secretary to the Minister for Education, the Ministry congratulated all newly admitted SHS students for reaching this important milestone.

“We warmly congratulate all newly admitted SHS students and welcome them into the next exciting phase of their academic journey,” the statement read.

“This is a new chapter filled with opportunities to grow, learn, and shape a brighter future. We urge our young learners to approach this phase with discipline, focus, and a positive attitude.”

The Ministry also commended parents and guardians for their patience and cooperation throughout the school placement process. It further announced that the placement into schools and residential status for the 2025/2026 academic year is now officially closed.

“We deeply appreciate the understanding shown by families during the placement process. With placements finalized, we encourage all parents and guardians to proceed to their assigned schools to complete enrollment processes and support their wards as they settle in,” Mr. Mohammed added.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring quality, equitable, and inclusive education for every Ghanaian child. It assured the public that systems are in place to guarantee a smooth start to the academic year across all schools.

“Our priority remains to provide an environment that fosters learning and personal development for every student. We are working closely with stakeholders to ensure that the academic year begins successfully in all schools,” the statement concluded.

The Ministry once again congratulated all students and extended its best wishes for success in their academic and personal development.
