The Ghana Police Service has rescued a young woman who was allegedly kidnapped and held captive for four days in Tamale, in an operation that also led to the arrest of the suspect and two suspected drug peddlers as part of a festive season security crackdown.

The kidnapping incident occurred at Dalogu Yili, a suburb of the Tamale Metropolis. The case was reported to the police at about 9:00 a.m. on December 26, prompting an immediate response from the Inspector-General of Police’s (IGP) Special Operations Team.

The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Fuseini Ibrahim, was arrested after police stormed the location and rescued the victim, Haruna Adamu, without any reported resistance. The Special Operations Team, led by Chief Inspector Abdullai Tahiru, secured the victim and ensured her safety before reuniting her with her parents.

Following his arrest, Fuseini Ibrahim was handed over to the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to assist with ongoing investigations and possible prosecution.

In a related development, the police also arrested two suspected drug peddlers in separate operations within the Tamale Metropolis during routine Christmas patrols. The suspects, identified as Ziyad Inusah and Majid Fuseini, were picked up by the same Special Operations Team as part of intensified efforts to curb crime during the festive season.

The festive patrol involved 105 police personnel deployed in 10 vehicles, targeting identified crime-prone areas across the metropolis. During the operation, police retrieved quantities of opioids from one of the suspects, further highlighting concerns about drug abuse and trafficking in urban centres.

The Ghana Police Service said the arrests demonstrate its commitment to protecting lives and property, especially during peak festive periods when criminal activities tend to rise. The Service reaffirmed its resolve to intensify patrols and operations aimed at clamping down on kidnapping, drug peddling, and other forms of crime.

Residents of Tamale have been urged to remain vigilant and continue cooperating with the police by promptly reporting suspicious activities to help maintain peace and security throughout the festive season and beyond.
