16 Killed in Fatal Crash at Potrikrom on Kumasi–Sunyani Highway

Sixteen passengers have lost their lives following a tragic road accident involving a Ford Transit bus and an ambulance at Potrikrom on the busy Kumasi–Sunyani highway in the Ashanti Region.

The fatal collision occurred near Mankranso in the Ahafo Ano South East District, sending shockwaves through the local community and beyond.

How the Accident Happened

Preliminary reports indicate that the Ford Transit bus, bearing registration number GT 6576-19, was travelling from Kumasi towards Drobo when it collided with an ambulance at Potrikrom.

The ambulance was reportedly transporting a pregnant woman from Drobo to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi at the time of the crash.

All 16 passengers on board the Ford Transit bus were confirmed dead at the scene.

Victims Yet to Be Identified

Authorities say the identities of the deceased have not yet been officially confirmed. The bodies have been deposited at the Mankranso Hospital mortuary pending identification and autopsy.

Meanwhile, the condition of the pregnant woman and other occupants of the ambulance remains unclear as investigations continue.

Regional Minister Reacts

Reacting to the tragic incident, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoakohene, expressed his condolences to the bereaved families.

In a brief message after receiving news of the crash, he stated:
“May their souls rest in peace.”

Growing Concerns Over Highway Safety

The Kumasi–Sunyani highway remains one of the busiest transport corridors in Ghana, linking major commercial towns across the Ashanti and Bono regions. The latest tragedy has once again raised concerns about road safety, emergency response systems, and highway driving standards.

Authorities are expected to conduct a full investigation to determine the cause of the collision.
