A major fire outbreak occurred on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at a Chinese warehouse located in Laterbiokoshie in Accra. The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) confirmed the incident in a Facebook post, stating that the blaze started in the afternoon and triggered an immediate emergency response.
According to the GNFS, six fire tenders were swiftly dispatched to the scene to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures. The warehouse, which was filled with combustible materials including leather and plastic products, fueled heavy flames and thick smoke across the vicinity.
Fire Under Control, No Casualties Reported
The GNFS assured the public that the situation is currently under control, with firefighters working tirelessly to fully extinguish the blaze. While official casualty figures are yet to be released, preliminary reports suggest that no injuries have been recorded.
Residents Warned Over Toxic Smoke
Authorities cautioned residents and neighbors to keep away from the affected area due to hazardous fumes. The GNFS emphasized that inhaling smoke from burning leather and plastic products poses serious health risks.
“We want to entreat neighbours and residents who live around to be cautious because the fumes from this fire are not conducive for human health,” the Service warned.
Cause of Fire Under Investigation
The exact cause of the fire remains unknown as investigations are underway. The GNFS has promised to provide updates once preliminary findings are available.
