For decades, residents of Builsa Land (Buluk) have endured the deplorable state of the Chuchuliga–Sandema–Fumbisi–Wiesi road, a critical highway linking communities across the Builsa South and Builsa North districts of Ghana’s Upper East Region.
The poor road network has long been cited as a major barrier to development, scaring away potential investors, hindering trade, and forcing many young people to migrate to urban centers in search of better opportunities.
Despite repeated assurances from successive governments, the road remained unattended—until now.
Road Project Officially Underway
Recent reports reaching Voice of Buluk confirm that construction work has commenced on the long-awaited road. A team from the news outlet visited the site and observed contractors actively working, although progress is described as slow.
The contractor, known as “My Turn”, has been tasked with constructing the road from Chuchuliga to Wiesi. According to the project manager and engineer on site, the road project is expected to be completed within 24 months.
This development has sparked renewed hope among residents who have for years lived with disappointment from failed promises.
Challenges Facing the Project
In an interview with Voice of Buluk, the site engineer disclosed that the major challenge slowing down progress is the long distance required to transport gravel for construction. He appealed to the people of Buluk to share possible nearby gravel locations that could ease the burden and speed up work.
Why This Road Matters for Buluk
The Chuchuliga–Sandema–Fumbisi–Wiesi road is more than just a transportation route. It is a lifeline for economic activity, agriculture, healthcare access, and education within the Builsa communities. A completed road is expected to:
- Boost local trade and commerce by easing the movement of goods and services.
- Attract investment that has long been diverted to neighboring districts with better infrastructure.
- Reduce youth migration by opening up job opportunities within Buluk.
- Improve access to healthcare, education, and essential services across the area.
A Long-Awaited Dream Coming True
After years of neglect and unfulfilled promises, the people of Buluk can finally look forward to a future where poor roads will no longer stifle development. While challenges remain, the ongoing construction marks a turning point that could transform the socioeconomic landscape of the area.
As the project progresses, Voice of Buluk will continue to monitor developments and provide updates on this critical road construction.
Wow this what we have been waiting for to hear the period of completion is long buh we have endure the hardship for long so we wait to see the good work.
Well done Team 🙏
This is laudable, but we shouldn’t count our chickens before they hatch! Many times we have seen skirmishes on the road, that have eventually fizzled out. When the road actually gets done, we will be grateful.
Secondly, I don’t know when the government plans to work on the Gbedema-Kanjarga-Fumbisi road. That is also a very important road linking Doninga and Kanjarga to Fumbisi. An important village like Kanjarga gets cut off otherwise. Why that road has been left out of the contract is incomprehensible to me.
