Mahama Issues Strong Anti-Corruption Warning: “Any Minister Who Brings Scandal Will Face Severe Consequences”

President John Dramani Mahama has restated his administration’s uncompromising stance against corruption, cautioning ministers and government appointees that any official who brings scandal to the government will face strict and irreversible consequences.

Speaking during a courtesy call by the Christian Council of Ghana at the Jubilee House on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, the President sharply criticized the long-standing pattern where past administrations fail to address corruption internally, only for scandals to erupt when a new government takes office.

“We Shall Deal Firmly With Any Scandal”

President Mahama said he has repeatedly reminded his ministers that they bear full personal responsibility for maintaining a scandal-free administration.

“I have given notice to my ministers… The prosecutions we are currently taking against the previous government will apply to the first person who brings a scandal to this government. We shall hang them on a cross. And you follow our Lord Jesus Christ, that you cannot resurrect again,” he warned.

The President emphasized that he will not shield any official, regardless of political affiliation or rank.

Past Governments Failed to Act

Mahama condemned the trend where governments ignore corruption allegations while in power, only for investigations to begin under a new administration, leading to accusations of political persecution.

“When a government is in office, when scandals are taking place, they don’t deal with them. They leave it until a new government comes… This is political persecution,” he stated.

Due Process Above Public Pressure

President Mahama assured that all corruption cases, whether involving former officials or current appointees, will follow strict due process. No case will be rushed to court without proper evidence.

“A person, even if accused, must have his day in court. A judge must examine the evidence… You do not take someone to court simply because you believe a crime has been committed. Evidence must be gathered,” he said.

He stressed that public pressure will not influence the pace of investigations, warning that cases will only proceed when prosecutors are certain of the charges.

Strengthening Anti-Corruption Institutions

Mahama told the Christian Council that the government is investing heavily in institutions responsible for fighting corruption, ensuring they have the independence and resources needed to operate effectively.

“The fight against corruption will be impartial and fair. We are strengthening the institutions and providing the resources they need,” he assured.

As the administration intensifies its governance and accountability reforms, President Mahama’s latest warning sends a clear message: there will be zero tolerance for corruption under his leadership.
