The 2026 edition of the Wiesi Soccer Juvenile League has officially kicked off in Wiesi, bringing together young footballers, families, and community leaders in a celebration of talent, unity, and sportsmanship.
The annual event, launched on April 6, 2026, aims to identify and nurture football talents among children while fostering a strong sense of togetherness and community belonging.
A Platform for Young Talent
The league features participants between the ages of 8 and 15, providing a structured platform for young players to develop their football skills. The opening ceremony attracted a large crowd, including parents, siblings, and community members who gathered to witness the launch and the first match of the tournament.

Community Support and Encouragement
A message delivered on behalf of the Chief of Wiesi commended the organizers for sustaining the initiative over the years and emphasized the need for peace and unity before, during, and after the games.
Parents of the participants expressed appreciation to the organizers for creating opportunities to engage their children productively while enhancing their footballing abilities. Youth leaders also applauded the initiative, urging participants to remain disciplined and focused as they develop their talents for future opportunities.
Organizer’s Vision: Unity Through Sports
The league is spearheaded by David Azong, a trained physical education teacher with a deep passion for football. Having played the sport in his early years, he remains committed to organizing the annual juvenile league to inspire the next generation.
According to him, the competition goes beyond football.
“This project is to inspire and give hope to the participants and the entire community,” he noted.
He explained that participants are grouped and redistributed into teams named after prominent personalities in Wiesi, a deliberate approach designed to promote unity, teamwork, and a sense of belonging among the youth.
He added that the games serve as a bonding platform for building lasting friendships, while also providing recreational value for the entire community.
Leadership Support
The Assemblyman for Wiesi, James Abaabek, who is actively involved in the initiative, highlighted the importance of such community-based programs in youth development.
He pledged his continued support to ensure the smooth organization and sustainability of the league in the years ahead.
