The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects in connection with a viral TikTok video that allegedly contains explicit death threats against President John Dramani Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama.
The police announced today, Tuesday, August 12, that they have launched a full-scale investigation into the matter.
The two suspects, identified as Prince Ofori and Yayra Abiwu, are currently in custody and assisting with the ongoing investigation. The viral video, which has been widely circulated on social media, features a female individual making the threats in the Twi language.
The Ghana Police Service confirmed that while these two individuals have been detained, efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other people believed to be connected to the video.
This incident has raised significant concerns about the misuse of social media platforms for incitement and making threats against high-profile individuals.
Authorities are urging the public to remain calm and allow the police to conduct their investigation without interference. The police have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of all citizens, including the President and his family.
The outcome of the investigation is expected to be made public in the coming days.
