His Excellency John Dramani Mahama
President of the Republic of Ghana
Jubilee House
Accra, Ghana

Your Excellency,

This open letter is written on behalf of the entire people of Buluk, comprising Bulsa North and Bulsa South, and is issued as a public appeal in the spirit of democratic accountability, national development, and shared responsibility.

Since the inception of Ghana’s Fourth Republic, the people of Buluk have consistently voted for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the firm belief that development would eventually reach our land. For over three decades, our communities have demonstrated loyalty and trust through the ballot. Yet, after all these years, Buluk still cannot boast of good and motorable roads across its communities.

The state of roads in Buluk has had devastating consequences on every aspect of life. Economic activity has been severely constrained as farmers struggle to transport their produce to markets and urban centres. High transportation costs, post-harvest losses, and reduced incomes have become the norm. Local businesses and commerce continue to suffer, discouraging private investment and worsening unemployment among the youth.

Healthcare delivery in Buluk is steadily deteriorating. Medical professionals, particularly doctors, continue to refuse postings to the area largely due to poor road access and the underdeveloped conditions created by this neglect. Pregnant women have suffered miscarriages, and some have lost their lives, as they attempt to access health facilities on dangerous and impassable roads. Emergency referrals are delayed with fatal consequences.

The poor road network has also become a major public safety concern. Numerous avoidable deaths have occurred through road crashes involving vehicles and motorbikes. Buluk continues to lose its vibrant and productive youth to accidents that are directly linked to bad roads. These losses weaken families, reduce productivity, and deepen poverty.

During the campaign for the 2024 general elections, the people of Buluk were given firm assurances by Members of Parliament and by the presidential candidate that our roads would be constructed if the NDC won power. In good faith, Buluk voted massively for the NDC, electing NDC Members of Parliament in both Bulsa North and Bulsa South, and overwhelmingly endorsing you, Your Excellency, as President of the Republic.

More than one year after the formation of your government, and despite the launch of your ambitious Big Push Agenda to construct thousands of kilometres of roads nationwide, the people of Buluk are yet to witness serious and visible road construction works in our area.

We acknowledge and appreciate the appointment of Hon. Dr. Clement Apaak, Member of Parliament for Bulsa South, as Deputy Minister of Education, and we are grateful for this recognition. However, the most pressing concern for our people remains the state of our roads. Without functional roads, progress in education, healthcare, agriculture, commerce, and security remains unattainable.

Your Excellency, the continued neglect of Buluk’s roads has become a humanitarian, development, and governance issue. It undermines public confidence, fuels inequality, and threatens national cohesion. Fixing our roads is not a request for favour; it is a call for equity, justice, and inclusive development.

We therefore respectfully but firmly call on your government to prioritize the immediate construction and rehabilitation of all major and feeder roads in Buluk under the Big Push Agenda and to treat the road situation in Bulsa North and Bulsa South as an urgent national development and public safety matter.

This open letter represents the collective voice, pain, and hope of the people of Buluk. It is shared publicly to draw national attention to a matter that affects lives daily. We remain loyal citizens of Ghana and committed believers in development-driven leadership, and we trust that you will give this appeal the urgent attention it deserves.

May wisdom and strength guide you as you lead our nation.

Respectfully,

On Behalf of The People of Buluk
(Bulsa North and Bulsa South)
