Health Minister Akandoh Directs Ministry to Align with 2024 NDC Health Manifesto

In a decisive move to streamline Ghana’s health sector reforms, Minister of Health Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has directed the management of the Ministry and its affiliated agencies to align their strategies and operations with the 2024 manifesto of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking at a strategic retreat held on January 12, 2026, the Minister emphasized that the NDC’s health manifesto outlines critical reforms and priority interventions aimed at improving access, coordination, and service delivery across the country. He noted that institutional alignment with these policy commitments is essential to meeting public expectations and accelerating sector wide performance.

“The manifesto is not just a political document. it is a blueprint for transforming healthcare delivery in Ghana,” Akandoh stated. “Every agency under the Ministry must internalize its provisions and translate them into actionable programs.”

The directive comes at a time when the Ministry is navigating complex challenges, including infrastructure deficits, workforce constraints, and the need for universal health coverage. The Minister’s call for alignment is seen as a strategic effort to ensure coherence, accountability, and measurable progress across all health institutions.

Key agencies expected to align with the manifesto include the Ghana Health Service, National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), and regional teaching hospitals. The manifesto reportedly prioritizes digital health transformation, equitable access to care, improved health financing, and enhanced regulatory oversight.

This move signals the NDC government’s intent to institutionalize its policy agenda and foster a results-driven culture within the public health system. Stakeholders have welcomed the directive, viewing it as a step toward a more integrated and responsive healthcare framework.
