The Member of Parliament for Builsa South and Deputy Minister of Education, Dr. Clement Apaak, has officially engaged contractors as construction begins on a major road project in the district.
Speaking at Gbedema, where the project commenced, Dr. Apaak assured residents that this initiative would not suffer the fate of previous abandoned projects.
“This time will be different,” he emphasized, noting that funding will be secured through the government’s Big Push infrastructure programme to guarantee completion.
A History of Abandoned and Poor Road Networks
The road infrastructure in Builsa South, particularly around Fumbisi, has long been a source of concern for residents.
Reports indicate that several road projects in the district have stalled over the years due to contractor inefficiencies and funding challenges. A notable example is the Uwasi–Fumbisi road, a critical 33.5 km stretch awarded in 2019 but abandoned after only about 10% completion following contract termination in 2022.
Residents have endured severe hardships due to the poor state of roads, including:
- Difficulty accessing markets and healthcare
- Delays in emergency services
- Reduced economic productivity
- Reluctance of teachers and health professionals to accept postings
At times, sections of these roads have become nearly impassable, especially during the rainy season, significantly disrupting daily life and business activities.
Government’s Renewed Commitment Through the Big Push
Dr. Apaak reiterated that the new construction effort is part of a broader national agenda to improve infrastructure and unlock economic potential in underserved areas.
He revealed that the project will not only focus on major roads but will also include:
- Inner roads within Fumbisi
- Drainage systems in the district capital
- Improved accessibility across surrounding communities in Buluk
According to him, the successful completion of the project will:
- Revive economic activities
- Improve transportation of goods and services
- Attract teachers and healthcare workers to the district

Contractor Assures Quality and Timely Delivery
The General Manager of My Turn Construction, speaking on behalf of the contractor, expressed confidence in the company’s ability to deliver.
He assured residents that the firm has:
- The technical capacity
- Adequate resources
- A commitment to quality to ensure the timely completion of the road project.
He further emphasized that the road, once completed, will serve its purpose effectively and sustainably.
Renewed Hope Among Residents
The assurances from both Dr. Apaak and the contractor have sparked renewed optimism among residents of Buluk.
Interviews conducted by Voice of Buluk reveal that many residents are hopeful that, after years of disappointment, this project will finally be completed.
For many, the road is more than infrastructure, it is a lifeline for economic growth, education, healthcare access, and overall development.
Conclusion
The commencement of road construction in Builsa South marks a significant turning point for a district that has long struggled with poor infrastructure and abandoned projects. With firm assurances from both government and contractors, residents are cautiously optimistic that this initiative will deliver lasting impact and transform livelihoods across Buluk.
