GES Announces 2025 School Placement Portal Dates and Major Policy Changes

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially announced the opening of the school placement portal for 2025, giving students the opportunity to recheck and confirm their selected schools before the final placement exercise.

According to GES Director-General, Professor Ernest Davis, the portal will be accessible from September 1 to September 8, 2025. This exercise will ensure transparency, fairness, and accuracy in the placement process.

“For the first time, candidates will have the opportunity to review their entries,” Professor Davis explained at a press briefing in Accra. “The actual placement will commence on September 17, 2025, followed by school reporting dates from October 18 to 20, 2025, marking the start of the new academic year.”

Caution Against Fake School Placement Deals

The GES has strongly cautioned parents and guardians against paying bribes to influence placements. Professor Davis stressed that school placement is free, adding:

“Anybody who sells placement to a parent or guardian is engaging in an illegal business. Such persons should be reported to law enforcement agencies.”

Private Schools Now Included in Placement System

In a major policy shift, the 2025 placement system will now include private schools. Professor Davis revealed that private schools have been added to the GES database, allowing students to select them during the placement process.

“We have fully integrated private schools into the system. Students who prefer them can now use the self-placement option to access these schools,” he said.

WAEC Withheld Results and Placement Timeline

GES also addressed concerns about results withheld by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC). Professor Davis assured students and parents that the placement timeline will not be delayed.

“Students who have issues with WAEC results must resolve them within three weeks. Otherwise, we will proceed with the placement process.”

Double-Track System to Remain Until 2028

On the future of the double-track system, Professor Davis clarified that it will not be phased out immediately. Introduced to manage the high enrollment numbers, the system will remain in some schools until 2028.

“We are gradually phasing it out. This year, some schools will still run double track, but by 2028 we expect to remove it completely,” he stated.
