Hon. Akandoh Commissions Ghana’s First Public Health Operations Response Centre at Pantang

In a landmark move to bolster Ghana’s public health infrastructure, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Minister for Health, has officially commissioned the country’s first-ever Public Health Operations Response Centre (PHORC) at Pantang. The facility, established in collaboration with the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), is designed to serve as a national coordination hub for emergency preparedness and response.

The PHORC will play a critical role in managing public health threats, including disease outbreaks, natural disasters, and other emergencies. It is equipped with state-of-the-art technology to facilitate real-time data analysis, inter-agency coordination, and rapid response deployment.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Hon. Akandoh emphasized the importance of proactive health systems:

“This centre marks a new era in Ghana’s ability to detect, respond to, and manage public health emergencies swiftly and effectively.”

The initiative aligns with Africa CDC’s continental strategy to strengthen health security and resilience across member states. Ghana’s PHORC is expected to serve as a model for similar facilities across West Africa.

Health experts, government officials, and international partners attended the event, lauding the centre as a timely investment in national and regional health security.
