The Government of Ghana has officially declared Friday, April 3, and Monday, April 6, 2026, as statutory public holidays to mark the Easter festivities across the country.

The announcement, made by the Ministry of the Interior, confirms that the two dates, observed as Good Friday and Easter Monday, will be recognised nationwide, allowing citizens to fully participate in the Christian celebrations.

Easter Holidays Officially Recognised

According to the official notice, Friday, April 3, will be observed as Good Friday, while Monday, April 6, will be marked as Easter Monday, both key events in the Christian calendar.

These dates are part of Ghana’s statutory public holidays and are widely observed by Christians to commemorate the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Nationwide Observance Expected

The government urged the general public to observe the holidays across the country, in line with national regulations governing public holidays.

Easter remains one of the most significant religious celebrations in Ghana, with activities ranging from church services to social gatherings and tourism events such as the popular Kwahu Easter festivities.

Boost for Tourism and Economic Activity

The Easter period is also expected to stimulate local tourism and business activity, particularly in destinations like Kwahu, where thousands of revellers gather annually for paragliding, concerts, and cultural celebrations.

Industry players anticipate increased travel, hospitality demand, and commercial activity during the long weekend.

Public Advisory

Authorities have advised citizens to celebrate responsibly while adhering to public safety guidelines during the holiday period.

The declaration reinforces the government’s commitment to preserving cultural and religious traditions while promoting national unity and leisure.
