NCA Convenes First Stakeholder Committee Meeting on DStv Subscription Fee Reduction

The National Communications Authority (NCA) has announced that the first meeting of the Stakeholder Committee on MultiChoice Ghana’s DStv pricing will take place on Monday, September 8, 2025.

In a statement issued on September 7, 2025, the NCA confirmed that it had received MultiChoice Ghana’s official response to the Authority’s notice of intention to suspend its authorization and its request for the company’s pricing model.

According to the NCA, MultiChoice Ghana has agreed to fully participate in the Stakeholder Committee, which was directed by the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, to review and evaluate the cost of DStv subscription packages in Ghana.

The Authority emphasized that the outcome of the Committee’s work will be determined after its review process is completed. MultiChoice Ghana has also assured that it will respect due process and abide by the laws of Ghana.

Minister Sam George Warns MultiChoice Ghana

Minister Samuel Nartey George has, however, expressed displeasure at MultiChoice Ghana’s recent public statement denying that it had agreed to reduce DStv subscription fees. He described the statement as “disrespectful to Ghanaians,” stressing that the company had earlier indicated a willingness to engage the Ministry over pricing concerns and requested a stay of enforcement action.

On his official Facebook page, the Minister warned:

“No company is above the law. If MultiChoice is not ready to discuss price reductions as earlier indicated, the National Communications Authority will enforce regulatory action, including the suspension of their authorization. Ghana is open for businesses that respect our laws and institutions.”

MultiChoice Ghana’s Position

In its own statement issued on September 5, 2025, MultiChoice clarified that while it will fully participate in the Stakeholder Committee’s work, it has not agreed to a direct price reduction. The company noted that it remains committed to ongoing engagements with the Ministry to find a solution that balances affordability for consumers and the sustainability of its DStv service in Ghana.

Next Steps

The NCA has assured the public that it will provide further updates after the Stakeholder Committee’s first meeting on September 8, 2025.

This development follows growing public demand for a reduction in DStv subscription fees in Ghana, with many consumers comparing prices to other African countries.
