The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, today hosted the African Union (AU) Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security, His Excellency Ambassador Bankole Adeoye.

The meeting, held in the capital, underscores Ghana’s renewed commitment to proactive diplomacy and its central role in African peace-building initiatives.

Ambassador Adeoye’s visit follows an official invitation to participate in the upcoming High-Level Conference on Regional Cooperation and Security. The summit, which has drawn international attention, will be held under the distinguished chairmanship of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama.

Scheduled for January 28th and 29th, 2026, the two-day summit is set to serve as a crucible for innovation in African governance. Its primary objective is to formulate homegrown African solutions designed to decisively address the surge of insecurity across the sub-region.

Speaking on the importance of the envoy’s visit and the upcoming conference, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa emphasized that security is the bedrock of economic progress.

“We are determined to coordinate efforts and roll out strategies aimed at guaranteeing the peace and stability of our region,” Hon. Ablakwa stated. “The philosophy of this ministry and the Mahama administration is clear: without peace, there can be no development.”

The meeting between Hon. Ablakwa and Ambassador Adeoye serves as a precursor to the strategic rollout of new regional frameworks. Key themes for the January summit include:

Decentralized Security intelligence by enhancing cooperation between neighboring states.

Socio-Economic Integration by addressing the root causes of radicalization through development.

Diplomatic Sovereignty by Prioritizing African-led mediation in regional conflicts.
