President John Dramani Mahama has expressed deep gratitude to 13 residents of Sikaman-Brofoyedu for their bravery in recovering the bodies of eight victims from the tragic military helicopter crash that occurred on August 6, 2025, in the Dampia Range Forest Reserve, Adansi Akrofrom District.
Representing the President, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, visited the community on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, to personally thank the volunteers and deliver a comprehensive package of government support.
Tragic Loss of High-Profile Officials
The helicopter crash claimed the lives of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, and six other senior officials who were on official duty at the time of the accident.
Speaking to the community, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah conveyed the President’s heartfelt appreciation:
“President Mahama has asked me to represent him and thank the residents who helped us recover the bodies of our eight men. We have a plaque for all of you in honour of what you did.”
Government Support and Donations
As part of the gesture, the government presented:
- GHS100,000 cash donation to the 13 individuals directly involved in the recovery operation.
- GHS20,000 to the Adansi Traditional Council to support traditional rites.
Mr. Asiedu Nketiah assured the residents of continuous support, saying:
“Whatever will be left behind, let your DCEs and party chairmen know so we clear those.”
Jobs and Infrastructure Promises
Beyond financial aid, President Mahama has pledged long-term support for the community. All 13 rescuers will be offered job opportunities tailored to their capabilities, ensuring sustainable livelihoods for their families.
Additionally, the President promised to address the community’s infrastructural needs, with a commitment to fix the main road linking Sikaman-Brofoyedu.
“President Mahama has also assured to fix your road,” Mr. Asiedu Nketiah emphasized.

The recognition of the Sikaman-Brofoyedu residents underscores the government’s appreciation for ordinary citizens who demonstrate courage in times of national tragedy. Their swift actions not only helped recover the victims but also provided closure for grieving families.
