President John Dramani Mahama will officially launch the $1.5 billion Gomoa Central Special Economic Zone (GCSEZ) on October 21, 2025, in a move set to transform Ghana’s industrial and digital economy.
The massive project, which spans 21,000 acres, is projected to create over 60,000 jobs and position Gomoa Central as a model for sustainable economic transformation in Africa.
The launch event in Accra will bring together key dignitaries, including the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, Presidential Advisor on the 24-hour Economy Initiative, Mr. Goosie Tanoh, GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, traditional leaders, and international investors. The project is jointly managed by the Gomoa Central Development Trust with support from the Ghana Free Zones Authority.
According to Kwame Asare Obeng, the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, the initiative represents more than just an industrial development.
“What we’re building in Gomoa Central isn’t just another industrial park,” he said. “It’s a complete ecosystem that proves sustainability and profitability can thrive together. We’re creating a model Africa has never seen before—one that will inspire generations.”
Five Pillars of the Gomoa Central SEZ
The GCSEZ integrates five core components designed to drive Ghana’s green and digital industrial revolution:
- 24-hour Business District – A hub to support 10,000 businesses by 2032.
- Eco-Recreational Park – Expected to attract one million visitors annually by 2030.
- Organic & Sustainable Farming Zone – Covering 2,100 acres to promote green agriculture.
- Integrated Eco-Industrial Hub – Hosting 200 factories with renewable energy systems.
- Renewable Energy-Powered Crypto Mining Facility – Projected to generate over $100 million annually.
The project will also serve as a pioneering platform for AfCFTA digital currency trade, leveraging blockchain technology to facilitate seamless transactions across 54 African countries. It aims to capture 30% of AfCFTA transactions by 2030, potentially adding $1.5 billion to Ghana’s GDP.
“Our renewable energy infrastructure will provide some of the lowest operational costs in the region,” Mr. Obeng added. “Our location gives us access to multiple ports and direct links to the Lagos-Abidjan Corridor. And our commitment to sustainability means we’re building something that benefits generations to come.”
Sustainable Development and Inclusive Growth
The Gomoa Central Development Trust has secured long-term industrial leases on legally documented land to ensure smooth implementation. The project also includes affordable worker housing and youth empowerment programs, aimed at training one million coders to support the zone’s digital infrastructure.
“This project represents the future we’ve been working toward,” Obeng said. “It’s not just about creating 60,000 jobs—it’s about positioning Ghana as a leader in green industrialization, digital innovation, and inclusive prosperity.”
The upcoming pre-launch event will showcase investment opportunities, infrastructure blueprints, and the strategic vision driving this landmark initiative.
