The Ghana Police Service has arrested six students of Aggrey Memorial Senior High School in connection with the alleged assault and robbery of a final-year student of Adisadel College in Cape Coast.

According to a press release issued by the Central Regional Command on February 24, the suspects were handed over to the Kotokuraba Police Station by school authorities on the evening of February 20. The arrest followed reports that the group had attacked Rexford Owusu Ansah earlier that day at Pedu Junction.

Incident After Inter-Colleges Sports Festival

Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident occurred after the final day of an inter-colleges sports festival held at the Cape Coast Stadium.

Police say the victim was leaving the venue with two friends when the suspects allegedly confronted them. The confrontation reportedly centered on whether they were students of Adisadel College. Shortly after, the situation escalated into a violent attack.

While the victim’s two companions managed to escape, he was reportedly overpowered, assaulted, and robbed of his iPhone 17 Pro Max, a pair of shoes, and approximately GH¢1,400 in cash.

Serious Injuries Sustained

The victim sustained serious injuries during the assault. He was initially treated at the stadium clinic before being referred to the Cape Coast Regional Hospital for further medical care.

Medical reports indicate that he suffered a fractured bone near his right eye, leaving him unable to open it. There are also concerns about possible severe damage to the eyeball. He was discharged from the hospital on February 22 after receiving treatment.

Police Condemn Violence, Assure Due Process

The Central Regional Police Command has strongly condemned the act of violence and reassured the public that due process will be followed.

Authorities emphasised that although the suspects are juveniles, they will face the full rigours of the law if found culpable. Investigations into the incident remain ongoing.

The case has sparked renewed public conversation about student safety during inter-school events and the need for stricter security measures at large gatherings involving young people.

Further updates are expected as investigations continue.
