Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang continued her series of strategic engagements with key ministries by paying a working visit to the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection. The visit, part of her broader effort to support the administration of President John Dramani Mahama, focused on strengthening policy execution and promoting inclusive national development.
She was warmly received by the Minister, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, alongside the ministry’s chief director, directors, and heads of agencies. Discussions centered on the importance of coordinated planning to ensure effective policy implementation, with the Vice President emphasizing that inclusive economic growth must leave no one behind.
“Women are present in every discipline,” she noted, “and all sectors must be more sensitive when addressing women’s issues.”
The visit coincided with two significant observances: the launch of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the International Day of Older Persons, both of which the Vice President formally inaugurated.
At the breast cancer event, she urged women to prioritize early detection through regular screenings and called for an end to the stigmatization of survivors. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting those affected by the disease.
At the International Day of Older Persons celebration, she praised the contributions of Ghana’s elderly population, describing them as “pillars whose wisdom and sacrifices hold society together.” She encouraged the public to approach older persons with humility and respect.
The Vice President also underscored the need for greater inclusion of persons with disabilities, advocating for policies that recognize their unique circumstances and promote dignity and accessibility.
Her visit was part of a broader initiative to engage directly with ministries to ensure alignment with national priorities. She was accompanied by senior officials including her Chief of Staff, Alex Percival Segbefia, and Policy Advisor Dr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo.
