The quiet community of Asonkore SSNIT in the Obuasi East Municipal Assembly has been shaken by a violent home invasion that led to the murder of a 42-year-old man in the early hours of Saturday, December 13.

The victim, Bismark Yaw Sarfo Danso, was fatally attacked inside his own residence by unidentified assailants, sparking widespread fear and prompting a full-scale investigation by the Obuasi Divisional Police Command.

Armed Gang Stormed Victim’s Home

According to preliminary police reports, the incident occurred between 1:30 am and 2:00 am when three armed men forcibly entered the deceased’s home.

Speaking to Adom News correspondent Isaac K. Normanyo, the wife of the deceased, Comfort Mensah, recounted the terrifying ordeal. She explained that the attackers ransacked the house after gaining entry before brutally killing her husband.

The assailants reportedly escaped with cash, a laptop, and other valuables, suggesting the attack initially appeared to be an armed robbery.

Case Escalated to Homicide Investigation

However, the killing of Mr. Danso has elevated the matter into a high-priority homicide investigation.

In a surprising development, police have detained the deceased’s junior brother to assist with investigations, signaling that authorities are exploring all possible angles, including internal leads or potential complicity.

Comfort Mensah confirmed the arrest, praising the swift response of law enforcement agencies following the incident.

The body of Bismark Yaw Sarfo Danso has since been conveyed to a mortuary in the Ashanti Region, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.

Obuasi East, a municipality historically linked to the AngloGold Ashanti gold mine, has occasionally recorded crime incidents linked to economic pressures. However, the Asonkore SSNIT area is widely regarded as a relatively secure residential enclave, making the incident particularly disturbing to residents.

Police Appeal for Public Assistance

The Obuasi Divisional Police Command has appealed to the public to assist with the ongoing investigation.

“Anyone with credible information relating to the home invasion and murder should come forward to help the police,” the command urged.

As investigations continue, residents are calling for increased security patrols and swift justice for the slain victim, as the community grapples with one of its most shocking crimes in recent times.
