The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 47-year-old woman in connection with the killing of two relatives at NTHC Estate in Sakumono, Accra, and announced a GH¢100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspected gunman, Samuel Christopher Osei Anto.

The incident, which occurred on Friday, October 30, 2026, claimed the lives of 57-year-old George Atuguba and his 47-year-old niece, Irene Atuguba, following what police believe may have been a financial dispute involving an alleged GH¢500,000 debt.

In an update on the investigation, the police identified the arrested woman as Beatrice Mumuni. She is alleged to have accompanied the principal suspect to the residence of the deceased before the fatal shooting.

Police suspect GH¢500,000 debt dispute

According to preliminary investigations by the Ghana Police Service, the killings may have been triggered by a financial disagreement between George Atuguba and Samuel Christopher Osei Anto.

Police say George Atuguba had allegedly borrowed GH¢500,000 from Osei Anto but failed to repay the money.

On the morning of Friday, October 30, the principal suspect reportedly visited the victims’ residence at NTHC Estate, Sakumono, accompanied by Beatrice Mumuni, to demand repayment of the alleged debt.

A misunderstanding reportedly ensued during the encounter, resulting in the suspect allegedly shooting and killing George Atuguba and his niece, Irene.

Officers from the Sakumono District Police Command who responded to the incident found the two victims at the residence with gunshot wounds.

They were subsequently rushed to a hospital, where a medical officer pronounced them dead. Their bodies have since been deposited at the Police Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

The Baatsona Divisional Police Command is leading investigations into the incident.

Police declare Samuel Osei Anto wanted

Following the incident, the Ghana Police Service has declared Samuel Christopher Osei Anto wanted to assist with investigations into the double murder.

The police have also announced a GH¢100,000 cash reward for anyone who provides credible information that leads to his arrest.

Members of the public who may have information about the suspect’s whereabouts are encouraged to report to the nearest police station or contact the police through their emergency numbers, 191 or 18555.

The reward is intended to encourage public cooperation as security agencies intensify efforts to locate the suspect and establish the full circumstances surrounding the killings.

Police investigations ongoing

The arrest of Beatrice Mumuni and the declaration of Samuel Christopher Osei Anto as wanted persons form part of ongoing investigations into the deaths of George and Irene Atuguba.

Although preliminary police findings point to an alleged financial disagreement over GH¢500,000 as the possible motive, investigations are expected to establish the complete circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Ghana Police Service has urged the public to provide credible information that could assist investigators in bringing the suspect to justice.

The development has renewed attention on the need for peaceful resolution of financial disputes and the importance of allowing lawful institutions to handle disagreements rather than resorting to violence.
