Over 20 Teachers and Invigilators Face Dismissal Over WASSCE Exam Malpractice – GES Confirms

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has confirmed that more than 20 teachers and invigilators implicated in examination malpractice during the ongoing 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) risk dismissal by the end of September.

Speaking to 3news on September 9, GES Public Relations Officer, Daniel Fenyi, disclosed that ongoing investigations have uncovered widespread breaches of examination rules, with some educators allegedly accepting bribes to compromise the integrity of the exams.

“We will investigate first. Once you’re caught — and even some of the people we’ve invited have admitted themselves — they engaged in malpractice,” Fenyi revealed.

According to GES, some teachers and invigilators received as little as GH¢60 to GH¢200 daily, while in some cases, students contributed up to GH¢500, which was shared among officials. Reports suggest that the malpractice occurred across several examination centres, with some schools allegedly facilitating the misconduct.

GES to Sanction Guilty Teachers by September 30

The GES has assured the public that all individuals found guilty will face sanctions, with dismissal being the most likely outcome by September 30, 2025.

The revelations have sparked outrage in the education sector. The General Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Thomas Tanko Musah, condemned the misconduct and urged teachers to protect the ethics of the profession.

“Don’t allow anybody to use your hand to catch a snake, because a snake is poisonous. Be mindful of what you’re doing because it will compromise your integrity,” Musah cautioned.

GES Clarifies BECE Placement Concerns

In a related development, the GES has reassured parents and candidates reviewing their BECE school placement information to remain calm, emphasizing that no changes have been made to student choices in the placement portal.

“Where we sit now, our computers and systems cannot change placement data. So if you find any change to the choices you made, it’s likely not coming from us,” Fenyi clarified.

GES Commitment to Transparency

The Ghana Education Service reaffirmed its commitment to fairness, transparency, and accountability in Ghana’s education system. The Service has vowed to deal decisively with anyone who undermines the credibility of WASSCE and other national examinations.
