K.T. Hammond Warns NPP: Flagbearer Race Must Not Be a Contest of Wealth

Former Adansi-Asokwa Member of Parliament, K.T. Hammond, has issued a strong caution to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as it gears up for its 2026 presidential primaries. Speaking during a campaign event in the Ashanti Region, Hammond criticized what he described as a troubling trend: the growing influence of wealth in determining leadership within the party.

“Where were the rich people when we were struggling to build the NPP in the 1990s?” Hammond asked, highlighting the sacrifices made by loyal party members who lacked financial clout⁽¹⁾.

He expressed concern that some factions within the NPP are sidelining grassroots supporters in favor of affluent aspirants, turning the flagbearer race into a contest of financial power rather than merit and dedication.

Hammond urged party members to prioritize unity, discipline, and the party’s founding values over personal ambition and monetary influence. He warned that arrogance and internal division could weaken the NPP’s chances in the 2026 general elections.

“This behavior of the rich distancing themselves from the poor must cease. The innuendos must cease, and disunity must stop,” he emphasized⁽¹⁾.

As the NPP prepares for its January 2026 primaries, Hammond’s remarks serve as a rallying cry for inclusivity and cohesion—reminding the party that its strength lies not in wealth, but in shared purpose and loyalty.
