Fumbisi SHS Triumphs at 9th Zonal Inter-School Sports Competition

The Western Zonal Sports Federation successfully hosted the 9th Zonal Inter-School Sports Competition from September 20–24, 2025, at Fumbisi Senior High/Agric School. The event brought together five top schools from the region to compete in a variety of sports disciplines including football, volleyball, handball, netball, athletics, and cross country.

Key Highlights:

The competition was held under the patronage of Mr. Michael Adaapiim, Headmaster of Fumbisi SHS, with Mr. Yel-oni Robert (Chairman of the Western Zone and Headmaster of Sandema SHS), Mr. Akumnyemi Richard (District Director of Education, Builisa South), and Hon. Mad Anne Musah (DCE, Builisa South District) in attendance.

Hon. Musah, the Guest of Honour, emphasized the transformative power of sports in education and youth development. Her speech called for increased investment in sports infrastructure and training, highlighting the role of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance in shaping future leaders.

Mr. Adaapiim echoed these sentiments, commending the students for their discipline and sportsmanship. He praised the merit-based selection of athletes and reaffirmed the school’s commitment to supporting student-athletes despite resource constraints.

Mr. Yel-oni Robert – Chairman, Western Zone & Headmaster, Sandema SHS emphasized the role of sports in shaping character and building leadership among students. He praised the dedication of coaches, teachers, and school administrators for nurturing young talent and called for continued collaboration among schools to elevate the standard of sports in the zone. His speech highlighted the importance of unity, fair play, and the long-term benefits of investing in youth development through athletics.

Mr. Akumnyemi Richard – District Director of Education, Builsa South commended the schools for their commitment to extracurricular excellence and applauded the students for their discipline and enthusiasm. He stressed the need for integrating sports into the broader educational framework and encouraged stakeholders to support infrastructure development and training programs.
