Ghana and World Bank Forge Strategic Alliance to Accelerate Development in Five Key Sectors

In a high-level meeting held during the 2025 IMF–World Bank Annual Meetings, Ghana’s Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, met with World Bank Group President Ajay Banga to reinforce Ghana’s development agenda through expanded collaboration.

The discussions focused on both ongoing World Bank–supported projects and new initiatives designed to accelerate Ghana’s transformation. Together, they identified five strategic sectors for enhanced support:

Education: Improving access and quality across all levels 
Health: Strengthening healthcare systems and infrastructure 
Energy: Expanding renewable energy and grid access 
Roads: Upgrading transport networks for economic connectivity 
Agriculture: Boosting productivity and food security

Dr. Forson was joined by Dr. Johnson Asiama, Governor of the Bank of Ghana, and H.E. Victor Smith, Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States. The delegation emphasized Ghana’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable development, with the World Bank playing a pivotal role in delivering tangible outcomes for citizens.

In a post shared via his official X account, Dr. Forson stated: 

“We are forging stronger partnerships to deliver real impact for our people. This is about accelerating Ghana’s journey toward inclusive growth and transformation.”
