The High Commissions of Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom in Ghana have jointly launched a one-week public awareness campaign to tackle the rising cases of visa fraud affecting Ghanaian travellers. The initiative, themed “Fighting Visa Fraud Together,” aligns with International Fraud Awareness Week, observed globally from 16–22 November 2025.
The campaign aims to educate the public on the dangers of fake visa agents, misinformation, and fraudulent documentation, common practices that have left many Ghanaians facing financial losses, emotional trauma, and long-term travel restrictions such as 10-year bans.
A Global Effort to Protect Genuine Applicants
The initiative forms part of a broader global effort led by UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI), supported by Australia, Canada, and New Zealand, to strengthen the integrity of immigration systems worldwide and promote the use of official government channels when applying for visas.
“Australia is proud to stand with our international partners to combat visa fraud,” said H.E. Berenice Owen-Jones, Australian High Commissioner to Ghana. She urged applicants to avoid shortcuts and rely on trusted and official sources.
Alarming UK Visa Fraud Statistics in Ghana
The British High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Dr. Christian Rogg, revealed worrying figures from 2024, when 1,632 Ghanaian applicants attempted to use fraudulent means in their UK visit visa applications. While this represented only 4% of total applicants, the consequences were severe, resulting in automatic 10-year bans.
“Fraud is never worth the risk,” he stressed, noting that many Ghanaians are misled by unlicensed agents promising guaranteed visas or quick approvals.
Canada Reaffirms Commitment to Safe Migration
Canadian High Commissioner H.E. Myriam Montrat emphasized Canada’s strong stance against fraudulent migration practices. She said the joint campaign demonstrates a shared commitment to ensuring visa applicants have access to accurate, reliable and trustworthy information.
“We are taking decisive steps to stop fraudulent practices that put applicants at risk,” she added.
Campaign to Reach Thousands Through Digital Education
Throughout the week, the three High Commissions will share educational content across their official social media channels, providing tips on safe application procedures and guidance on how to identify fake agents. The public is encouraged to follow updates using the hashtag #AUSCANUKGH.
Protecting Applicants, Strengthening Systems
Australia, Canada, and the UK say they remain committed to protecting genuine applicants and maintaining secure, transparent, and accessible visa processes for all Ghanaians.
The campaign reinforces the message that avoiding fraud and using proper channels is the only safe path for visa applicants.
