The Koforidua High Court has granted bail to former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, in the sum of GH₵800,000 with two sureties.
As part of the bail conditions, the sureties are required to be residents in Accra and must possess valid Ghana Cards. The ruling follows a tense period in custody that included a reported health emergency.

Mr Blay was briefly hospitalised after his blood pressure reportedly rose to dangerous levels while in custody. The incident occurred shortly after he was remanded by the Akropong Circuit Court.
Sources close to the veteran politician disclosed that he was rushed to a medical facility on March 17, 2026, for urgent treatment. An aide attributed the sudden health complication to the stress surrounding his arrest and detention.

The case stems from an alleged demolition dispute over a parcel of land at Kitase in the Eastern Region. According to prosecutors, Mr Blay, who reportedly acquired the land in 1994, ordered the demolition of a house under construction on the property.
His arrest followed the execution of a bench warrant in Accra on March 16, 2026. Authorities say the warrant was initially issued in April 2025 after he allegedly failed to respond to multiple police invitations and did not appear for a scheduled court hearing.
