Member of Parliament for Builsa South Constituency and Deputy Minister of Education, Clement Apaak, has commissioned a newly constructed six-unit classroom block for the people of Gbedema in the Builsa South District as part of efforts to improve teaching and learning in the area.
The newly commissioned school facility comes with a fully furnished toilet facility for both students and teachers, aimed at improving sanitation and creating a conducive learning environment for academic activities.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Dr. Apaak stated that the Gbedema school project forms part of several educational interventions expected to be rolled out across the Builsa South District to improve access to quality education and educational infrastructure.
The Deputy Minister officially handed over the keys to the Chief of Gbedema, who subsequently presented them to the headmaster of the school in the presence of community members, traditional authorities, and education stakeholders.
The Chief of Gbedema expressed appreciation to Dr. Apaak for the intervention and appealed for additional support, particularly teachers’ accommodation and more teaching staff for schools within the constituency.
According to the chief, inadequate teachers remain a major challenge affecting education delivery in the area. He therefore called on the Deputy Minister of Education to facilitate the posting of more teachers to the district to strengthen academic work in local schools.
Community members who gathered for the event expressed excitement over the completion of the school project and pledged to maintain the facility to ensure it continues to serve future generations.
Following the commissioning at Gbedema, Dr. Apaak and his delegation proceeded to Fumbisi Senior High School, where he presented 4,348 furniture pieces and four motorbikes to the Builsa South District Education Directorate.
The furniture, which is expected to be distributed among senior high and junior high schools across the district, was funded by the GETFund as part of the government’s broader commitment to improving educational infrastructure nationwide.
Dr. Apaak explained that the initiative aligns with the vision of John Mahama to ensure that every child in Ghana has access to proper classroom furniture, including desks and chairs, to support effective learning.
He assured residents that more educational facilities and interventions would be brought to Builsa South to ensure no community is left without access to quality school infrastructure.
Receiving the items on behalf of the District Education Directorate, the Assistant District Director of Education thanked the government and the Member of Parliament for the gesture and assured that the furniture and motorbikes would be used for their intended purposes.
The Headmaster of Fumbisi Senior High School also commended Dr. Apaak for the support but appealed for assistance to fence the school to improve security and student discipline.
According to the headmaster, the absence of a perimeter fence makes it difficult to effectively monitor student movement and ensure the safety of students on campus.
Responding to the request, Dr. Apaak assured the school authorities that efforts would be made to facilitate the fencing of the school to strengthen security and promote discipline among students.
