The Member of Parliament for Builsa South Constituency and Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Apaak, has officially cut sod for the construction of a modern 24-hour economy market in the Builsa South District, marking what many residents describe as a significant milestone in the area’s economic transformation.
The sod-cutting ceremony, held in Fumbisi, brought together key stakeholders, including the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Builsa South, traditional leaders, clergy members, the project contractor, consultants, assembly officials, and residents from across Buluk.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Apaak described the project as the fulfillment of a major campaign promise made by former President John Dramani Mahama during the 2024 election campaign. According to him, the market project forms part of broader efforts aimed at implementing the government’s 24-hour economy agenda to stimulate local businesses, create employment opportunities, and strengthen economic activities in rural communities.
“This project is not just about building stalls and sheds,” Dr. Apaak emphasized. “It is about creating opportunities, improving livelihoods, and giving the people of Buluk a modern commercial center that can drive economic growth for generations.”
The Deputy Education Minister assured residents that the project would be completed within schedule and would significantly improve the appearance and functionality of the market area in Fumbisi. He further appealed to residents, chiefs, and local stakeholders to cooperate fully with the contractor to ensure the smooth execution of the project.
A key highlight of Dr. Apaak’s address was his commitment to local job creation. He announced that skilled youth from Buluk would be given employment opportunities during the construction phase of the project.
“Our young people who have the skills and are ready to work will be engaged by the contractor,” he stated. “This project must directly benefit the people of Buluk.”
Project consultants at the event also revealed that the proposed market would go beyond the traditional concept of a marketplace. According to them, the facility will include several important service centers designed to support commerce, security, healthcare, and community welfare.
Among the planned facilities are:
- A police station
- A clinic
- A fire station
- A women’s development bank
- Modern trading spaces
- Improved sanitation facilities
- Other social and commercial support services
The integrated nature of the market is expected to position Fumbisi as a growing commercial hub within the Upper East Region while supporting the government’s vision of decentralized economic development.
The District Chief Executive for Builsa South also pledged the full support of the district assembly toward the successful execution of the project. She assured the contractor of cooperation from the assembly and local authorities to help ensure timely completion.
Representatives of the Chief of Fumbisi expressed gratitude to Dr. Apaak and the government for bringing what they described as a “transformational project” to the people of Buluk. They encouraged government officials to continue prioritizing development projects in the area to improve living standards and economic opportunities for residents.
Residents who attended the ceremony welcomed the announcement with excitement, expressing hope that the modern market would boost local trade, attract investment, and reduce unemployment among the youth.
The project is expected to become one of the largest commercial infrastructure developments in the Builsa South District in recent years and could play a major role in reshaping economic activities across the constituency.

Great news yet I don’t know why they delayed in the starting this huge project. Monies were disbursed last year and it has to take them almost 6 months or more to cut sod for commencement? As we speak now Builsa North being municipal hasn’t even done any sod cutting yet. Is this not concerning? Tnx for your publication
