PRESS STATEMENT: Date: 24 August 2026
The Office of the Municipal Chief Executive has received with deep concern reports of the alleged inhumane treatment and brutality meted out to Mr. Fidelis Asangalisa, popularly known on social media as Way Maker by some military personnel in Sandema on 22 August 2026.
The Office strongly condemns brutality, intimidation and the excessive use of force against civilians in any form. While we recognise and appreciate the important role of the Ghana Armed Forces and other security agencies in protecting lives, maintaining peace and safeguarding national security, every citizen must be treated with dignity and in accordance with the law.
Since the circumstances surrounding the incident remain allegations, we call upon the appropriate authorities to conduct a prompt, transparent and impartial investigation.
We further appeal to residents of Sandema and the wider municipality to remain calm, refrain from spreading unverified information and allow the relevant authorities to establish the facts. Individuals with credible information concerning the incident are encouraged to cooperate with the investigation.
The Office of the Municipal Chief Executive remains committed to protecting the rights, safety and dignity of every resident while promoting mutual respect and cooperation between civilians and security personnel.
We wish Mr. Fidelis Asangalisa a speedy and complete recovery.
