The Ghana Police Service has disclosed details surrounding the alleged kidnapping and murder of 33-year-old mobile phone dealer Nana Yaw Kyere, whose death has triggered investigations into a suspected plot to conceal the crime.

Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the case following investigations by the Missing Persons Unit of the Ghana Police Service.

The suspects have been identified as Philip Dzifa Kofi Tefe, Sarah Osei Adams and Josiah Obodai. They were arraigned before the Teshie District Court on Monday, September 28, 2026, and remanded in police custody to reappear on October 16, 2026.

Nana Yaw Kyere reported missing

According to preliminary police investigations, Nana Yaw Kyere, a mobile phone dealer operating around the Nkrumah Circle area of Accra, popularly known as Dinero, left his residence at Kokomlemle on September 19, 2026, in his Honda Civic vehicle.

He reportedly did not return home, prompting concerns over his whereabouts and the subsequent reporting of his disappearance.

Investigators later gathered information indicating that the deceased had gone to the Teshie area of Accra, where police believe he was allegedly lured into a residence and subsequently attacked.

There were also reports that Nana Yaw had apparently become suspicious that something could go wrong on the night of the incident and sent messages to a friend showing his live location.

Police say victim was lured to Teshie residence

Police investigations indicate that Sarah Osei Adams allegedly lured Nana Yaw Kyere to the residence of Philip Tefe at Teshie Agbleza.

According to the police account, both suspects subsequently confessed to their alleged involvement in the incident.

Investigators said a confrontation later occurred between Nana Yaw and Philip Tefe, during which Tefe allegedly attacked the phone dealer with a metallic object.

The attack reportedly left Nana Yaw injured. Police said he was subsequently moved to another room, where he was left unattended and later died.

The details released by the police form part of preliminary investigations, and the allegations against the suspects will be subject to the ongoing court process.

Body allegedly transported and set ablaze

Following the victim’s death, investigators say the suspects attempted to conceal evidence by moving his body from the Teshie area.

Police investigations indicate that the body was allegedly transported in a Kia Morning vehicle to a location near the motorway on September 20, 2026.

The body was reportedly dumped in a bush and set on fire.

However, the attempt to conceal the identity of the deceased did not prevent investigators from eventually establishing his identity.

The partially burnt body was discovered at Tema Community 18 on September 21, 2026.

The victim’s biological mother and an uncle subsequently identified the body at the Police Hospital morgue on September 24, 2026, according to the police.

Police retrieve Nana Yaw’s iPhone 12

As investigators continued to piece together the circumstances surrounding the murder, police also recovered the deceased’s iPhone 12.

According to the police, Philip Tefe allegedly sold the phone for GH¢100.

The person who allegedly purchased the device, identified as Sunday Omeje, has been cautioned and detained on suspicion of dishonestly receiving the phone.

The recovery of the device is expected to form part of the evidence being examined as investigators work to establish the sequence of events surrounding Nana Yaw’s disappearance and death.

Third suspect linked to disposal of body

Further investigations led to the arrest of Josiah Obodai, who police said is being investigated in connection with the disposal of Nana Yaw’s body.

Police have also impounded his father’s Kia Morning vehicle, which investigators believe was allegedly used to transport the body.

The vehicle is now part of the evidence being examined as investigators seek to establish the full circumstances surrounding the movement and disposal of the deceased.

Police continue investigations

The Ghana Police Service said the three suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue.

Police are also working to identify and arrest any other persons who may have been involved in the alleged kidnapping, murder and subsequent attempt to conceal the evidence.

The arrests followed investigations by the Missing Persons Unit, which began probing Nana Yaw’s disappearance after he was reported missing.

The case is therefore expected to develop further as investigators gather additional evidence and the suspects return to court.

For now, the allegations remain subject to judicial determination, with the prosecution expected to present its case through the ongoing legal proceedings.

The death of Nana Yaw Kyere has drawn attention to concerns surrounding violent crime and the disappearance of persons in Accra, while the latest police account provides investigators with a detailed timeline of what they believe happened between his disappearance on September 19 and the discovery of his partially burnt body at Community 18 two days later.
