Farmers Choice Association (FCA), a beneficiary of the FAO Forest and Farm Facility (FFF) Programme, has trained 30 members in beekeeping, honey production, basic business principles and business plan development.

The two-day capacity-building training was held from 6 to 7 August 2026, providing participants with practical knowledge and skills aimed at improving their livelihoods through sustainable beekeeping and honey production.

The training combined technical lessons on beekeeping and honey production with basic business development skills. Participants were also guided through the process of developing practical business plans that could be applied to their individual ventures.

Practical training for sustainable livelihoods

Throughout the training, participants actively engaged with facilitators through discussions, questions, experience sharing and practical exercises.

The participatory approach enabled members to connect the lessons to their own experiences and identify strategies for developing viable beekeeping and honey-production enterprises.

According to Farmers Choice Association, the facilitators played an important role in making the sessions practical and engaging, helping participants gain a clearer understanding of both the technical and business aspects of beekeeping.

The business component of the training also focused on helping participants understand basic principles that can support the development and management of sustainable enterprises.

Participants develop practical business ideas

Beyond acquiring knowledge, participants had the opportunity to develop ideas and strategies aimed at strengthening their livelihoods.

The development of practical business plans formed an important part of the training, giving participants a framework they can use as they pursue or expand their beekeeping and honey-production activities.

The initiative highlights the importance of combining technical agricultural knowledge with entrepreneurship and business management skills, particularly for farmers and producer groups seeking to turn agricultural activities into sustainable sources of income.

FCA expresses appreciation to FAO FFF Programme

Farmers Choice Association expressed its appreciation to the facilitators and the FAO FFF Programme for supporting the capacity-building initiative.

The association said the training represents an important step towards building the knowledge and skills of its members while promoting sustainable enterprises and improved livelihoods.

With the growing emphasis on value addition, entrepreneurship and sustainable agricultural practices, initiatives that equip farmers with both production and business-development skills can provide participants with tools to better organize and develop their enterprises.

For the 30 members who participated, the training provided an opportunity to strengthen their understanding of beekeeping, honey production and business planning while developing practical strategies that can be applied beyond the training sessions.

Farmers Choice Association says it remains committed to building knowledge, strengthening livelihoods and promoting sustainable enterprises among its members.
