The Member of Parliament for Builsa North, Hon. James Agalga, has donated relief items to residents affected by recent flooding in the constituency, as efforts continue to support communities displaced by heavy rainfall.
The relief intervention, carried out in collaboration with the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Builsa North, Hon. Solomon Akogti, is aimed at providing immediate assistance to families whose homes and livelihoods have been affected by the floods, particularly in Sandema and Siniesi.
The items were formally handed over to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) for onward distribution to affected residents.
The donation comes after a heavy downpour recently caused flooding in parts of Builsa North, displacing a number of residents and creating urgent humanitarian needs in some communities.
Relief Items Donated
The relief package handed over to NADMO includes:
- 600 bags of rice
- 400 bags of maize
- 300 cartons of cooking oil
- 500 mattresses
- 200 buckets
- Mosquito nets
- Cups and plates
The food items are expected to provide immediate support to affected households, while mattresses, mosquito nets and other household items will help families cope with the difficult conditions created by the flooding.
According to the MP, the intervention was made possible through the support of the Minister of the Interior and the National Director of NADMO, whose swift response followed calls for assistance for the affected communities.

Call for Continued Support
The latest flooding has renewed attention on the vulnerability of some communities in Builsa North to flooding during periods of heavy rainfall. Beyond the immediate distribution of relief items, there is likely to be a need for continued assessment of affected areas, rehabilitation of damaged infrastructure and measures to reduce the risk of future flooding.
For residents who have been displaced, the immediate priority remains access to food, shelter and essential household items. However, long-term interventions such as improved drainage systems, proper spatial planning and enforcement of building regulations could also play an important role in reducing the impact of future floods.
NADMO is expected to oversee the distribution of the donated items to ensure that the most affected households receive the needed assistance.
The intervention underscores the importance of coordinated action among national authorities, local government, NADMO, community leaders and other stakeholders in responding to disasters and supporting affected communities.
