The National Democratic Congress (NDC) will open nominations for its 2026 Constituency Executive Elections on Tuesday, September 15, as the party begins another major phase of its internal reorganisation ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The nominations will run from September 15 to September 17, 2026, giving prospective candidates an opportunity to apply for various constituency executive positions within the party.

According to the NDC, the opening of nominations forms part of the approved timetable for the party’s internal elections, which will cover constituency, regional and national executive positions.

The party has encouraged all members interested in contesting constituency executive positions to participate in the process and comply with the prescribed requirements and deadlines.

NDC nomination requirements

The NDC has stated that aspirants, proposers, seconders and endorsers must be members in good standing and must have fully paid their membership dues for the previous four years.

Members who have outstanding dues have been directed to settle their arrears through the party’s designated payment channels before participating in the nomination process.

The party has also directed that payments for the purchase of nomination forms and filing fees must be made through its online nomination portal using mobile money across all networks.

NDC constituency election timetable

The nomination process is expected to begin at 7:00 a.m. on September 15 and close at 5:00 p.m. on September 17, 2026.

After the opening of nominations, aspirants will have seven days to complete their nomination forms and secure the required endorsements.

The filing of nominations is scheduled for September 23 and 24, with both online submission and hard-copy filing at the respective constituency offices required during the designated period.

Vetting of constituency executive aspirants will subsequently take place from September 25 to September 27, followed by an appeals process scheduled for September 29 to October 1, 2026.

The actual NDC Constituency Executive Elections are scheduled for October 24 and 25, 2026, at designated venues across the various constituencies.

NDC opens campaign window

The party has also officially opened campaigning for its 2026 internal elections at the constituency, regional and national levels.

Regional and constituency officers, as well as Ward Coordinators, have been directed to allow eligible aspirants to undertake campaign activities within their respective jurisdictions in accordance with the party’s rules and regulations.

However, the NDC has made it clear that the campaign window does not apply to individuals pursuing or intending to pursue parliamentary ambitions.

This includes sitting Members of Parliament and persons who have expressed an intention to contest parliamentary elections. The party has warned that violations of this directive will be dealt with in accordance with its rules and regulations.

NDC prepares for 2028 elections

The 2026 internal elections are expected to play an important role in strengthening the NDC’s grassroots structures as the party prepares for the next general election in 2028.

The National Secretariat has urged members, aspirants and constituency structures to conduct the process with discipline and respect for the party’s democratic principles.

The NDC says it expects the internal elections to be transparent, peaceful and orderly, with members adhering strictly to the approved timetable and electoral procedures.

The statement announcing the opening of nominations was signed by Deputy General Secretary Barbara Serwaa Asamoah on behalf of the General Secretary.
