PRESS STATEMENT
RE: NDC DISTANCES ITSELF FROM ALLEGED MILITARY BRUTALITY ON WAY WALKER
The leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Builsa North Constituency has taken notice of reports circulating on social media and within the community alleging military brutality meted out to one Way Walker.
We wish to state categorically and unequivocally that:
- The National Democratic Congress (NDC), as a democratic and law-abiding political party, has no hand in, did not authorize, and does not condone any act of military brutality or any form of violence against any citizen.
- The NDC believes in the rule of law, respect for human rights, and due process. We condemn in the strongest terms any act of brutality, intimidation or assault on civilians by any security personnel.
- The NDC is not in command of the Ghana Armed Forces. The deployment and operational conduct of the military is the sole responsibility of the State and its high command, not any political party.
- Any attempt to link the NDC as a party to this unfortunate incident is false, malicious and intended to tarnish the image of the party and create disaffection in the constituency.
We therefore call on the relevant security authorities to conduct an immediate, thorough and impartial investigation into the incident to ensure the truth is established and that justice is served, while urging the general public to remain calm and not politicize a security matter. We further urge all the media outlets and the general public to refrain from dragging the NDC into matters that seek to tarnish the image of the party without evidence.
We sympathize with Way Walker and his family and wish him a speedy recovery.
The NDC remains committed to peaceful engagement, constructive dialogue and the protection of all citizens.
