A Ghanaian medical doctor has filed a GH¢20 million lawsuit against three major hospitals following the death of her brother after a road accident, a case that is already sparking national debate about emergency healthcare delivery and medical negligence in Ghana.
According to reports, Dr. Matilda Amissah initiated legal action against the Ghana Police Hospital, the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, and the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital over the death of her brother, Charles Henry Amissah.
The lawsuit alleges that the deceased, who was involved in a hit-and-run accident on the Kwame Nkrumah Circle Overpass in February 2026, was denied urgent medical attention at multiple health facilities despite arriving in critical condition.
Court documents reportedly claim that emergency responders transported Charles Amissah to different hospitals, but treatment was allegedly delayed due to the unavailability of beds and other emergency care challenges. The family argues that timely medical intervention could have saved his life.
The case has intensified public scrutiny over Ghana’s emergency healthcare system, particularly concerns surrounding trauma response, hospital coordination, and access to critical care for accident victims.
